Just heard of Peluso Microphone Labs. From their website (http://www.pelusomicrophonelab.com), it looks like they're building microphones with similar model numbers to classic microphones, that are "inspired by", and "capture the character of" the originals (they don't actually come out and say they're replicas). The thing that made me take note is their prices are pretty reasonable; their most expensive model is a little over $2k. I don't think for a second that their stuff sounds anything like the original they're "capturing the character of," but if it sounds good, then who really cares?
Anyone know anything about this outfit? Ever used their products?

I have a few mics reworked by Peluso and had a great experience. I am just the tech so I dont get to use them everyday, but for a reasonable price it was outstanding work.

But an hour later, it was hungry for power.

My main objection to his mics is the reference to the historic mics. 2247? Really, what does this mic have to do with a U47? Nothing that I can find. In fact, the capsule is a knock off of a K67, which is a completely different capsule, that sounds kinda shitty if you ever put it in a real U47. And then there's no VF14 or BV8. So, just what does this mic have in common with a U47?

2 points:
1. As the old saying goes, "Ask the man who owns one". J.J owns several U-47's. if I remember correctly.
2. As my most influential guitar teacher used to say, "As time passes, that which was once subtle becomes obvious". Meaning that probably only a person who owns a U47 would be fully qualified to pass judgement on a 'tribute' mic's fidelity to the sound of the original.
I remember someone buying a couple of 251 'tribute' mics and then selling his original 251's. Now that is a vote of confidence. But I don't hear similar stories from U47 owners.

a 251 is a lot easier to source componants for. And some of those 251's like the elux251 sound pretty amazing.
I listen to the shoot outs that have been done and the real 47 is so easlily distinquished and the copies don't even come close. It really is a componants issue. the power supply and the tube are unique to that mic. Even the expensive Wunder Audio mic has a more modern sound to it. I thought it sounded amazing, but not in a U47 way. Not quite the same.
The peluso didn't even remotley resemble the sound of the 47. The closet seemed to be the Telefunken reisue. But this is an $8500 mic.
now, Pearlman makes similar mics to peluso. All this was discussed pretty thouroughly here
