That makes one of us. The problem with the TLM49 is that it's pretty much only suitable for vocals. I think it sounds better for vocals than a U87 (which is not my favorite mic in the first place), but it wasn't anywhere near as great as my M49 or U47. Not even close. And I'd pick a solid state Brauner over it in a heartbeat. It's a one trick pony, unless you are willing to EQ it, and there's a stable full of horses that do the trick better.

It's cool that it turned out a perfect match for your voice, Aaron. That often means less chasing overly expensive microphones in a quest for "The Better Sound".
As far as EQing a vocal track recorded using the TLM49, I have to say the sound falls apart quite quickly once you start processing it with EQ. Especially the treble. It just goes into mush up there, and the transients get weird. I started using the TLM103 over the TLM49 here just for that reason alone, before I went to other mics.

I will wager a bet that somewhere down the road, at the end of the day, there will be better TNC microphones than the new Neumanns.

I am secretly harboring a suspicion that at the end of the day, the 1200 may well be the best mic I own.
Mind you... that ain't necessarily sayin' all that much. The best I have right now is an almost 20 year old 4033.
Now... ribbons. the 3 or the 4? One of each? A Pair of both? I think these were both available through the last GB, anyone want to comment on them? I've read through the thread a couple times, and barring the sag issue on the 3 (which we're hoping has been dealt with), I'm having trouble getting a sense of just how usable they are.
I realize we're all kinda shooting in the dark here, but any insights would be helpful.
EDIT: Sorry... Thought we were in the other thread there.

I really don´t think that this mic is somewhere near of being good sounding for vocals at all!
It´s ok for voice over because it gives an almost finished, sort of compressed, high midrange sound. Very artifical, very in your face and impossible to EQ or compress. This should be nice for vocals in music??? No way...
To me it´s sound like Sennheiser headphone used as a microphone...

I tried a pair of the "popular" Oktava's-geez-just goes to show-different strokes for different folks.
On the other hand, I had a Michael Buble type voice in the other day and the TLM103 and his voice were a match made in heaven. I will never part with my TLM103.

I tried both the TLM49 and the BCM104 when they first came out.
I had them for a week in my home studio.
I ended up not keeping either of them.
They just sounded sterile (on my voice) when compared to the classic V/O mics.
I still use, in no particular order, my original U87, RCA 77DX, EV RE20, Shure SM5, Shure SM7, Sennheiser 421, RCA BK5 and several others, depending on the sound my clients want me to match.
I've been doing V/O for almost fifty years now and still say the best mic I ever used was the Neumann U47 at a radio station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada back in 1971.
I just wish I could find and afford to buy one of those and have it re-furbished by Klaus.
The second best mic I ever used was a Klaus modified U87 at a studio in Toronto.
Again, this is my experience with my voice.
I will try the TLM67 when it arrives and will keep an open mind until I can hear it myself in my little studio with my pres and monitors.
