Not a fan.
I know many of you guys own them, and love them, but why is it that consistently for the last 20 years, every experience I have with these things leaves me hating them? I'm doing a session with a guy who brought one in, and I plug it into my '53 Fender Deluxe, and it sounds like doodoo. Every guitar sounds great in that amp. WTF? It's sounds like a neck and strings mounted on a toilet seat. Pick ups are too hot with really unpleasant thing going on in the mids, that tone filter sounds like ass, and there's so much poly on the body that the wood has no tone. It's just there for looks. it would seem.
OK, PRS owners. Explain to me what I'm not getting about these things.

They say the heart of Rock & Roll is still beating, which is amazing if you consider all the blow it's done over the years.

The most common thing I hear is that they don't sound LP's. To which I say, no kidding? Most people I talk to buy them looking for them to sound like LP's or they think they are a blend between LP's and strats. They are none of the above. PRS's IMHO are not a good choice for rootsy music where a Strat or LP is traditionally used. PRS' tend to work best with modern, high gain sounds. I am a full fledged PRS slappy and love them for what they are. Doesn't mean I don't own and use LP's and strats.
In short, they are their own thing.
As for the finish, its not really that big of a deal in my mind. Judging from the dings on mine its not as thick as most people think.
The high pass cap on them does blow. I remove that immediately. I also change the electronics and pickups on most of mine. I get Duncan's custom shop to wind me nice pickups for mine.
Personally, the playability and trems and the big items for me. I run the racks for PRS just like any other guitar. The PRS have much less variance from guitar to guitar than Gibson and Fender but you can certainly find gems and dogs in the lines.

Never had really good experiences with them.
They don't know what they wan to be when they grow up.
So they are neither.
And they look stupid.

I will agree with those who dont like the feel of them, but as far as not sounding good clean,....never. My best friend plays one in every concievable style. clean, dirty, Jimmy page, keith Richards. It is a complete chamelion. now he is one hell of a player, but one trick pony it is not. and his main tone is that Southern Allman clean, but dirty un-rectifier sound.
Now for me, I cant play it at all. the picking area is too close to the strings and I cant dig in, or hold my hand where I want.
