i knew this was going to bite me in the ass one day.
long and short:
wrong spelling of the title (happened to be the sponsor name) in the cd-text and in the PQ sheet. nobody caught it and 35,000 CDs were pressed.
i don't see how i can come out unscathed regardless of my responsibility after the master has been received and accepted by the client.
groan. this is a bad day.

I feel for you.
Happened to me a few times; usually incorrect information or spelling supplied by artiste/label/PR etc. Now keep a dictionary in my studio.
As consolation I can only offer that virtually no-one can read the stoopid CD-Text anyway...they confuse it with Gracenote.

Our policy as of about 6 months back;
We will embed CD-Text as requested, but don't guarantee it will show up correctly on players.
Too may variables.
We ask the client to bring it up with the replicator, to make sure the Eclipse software reads it OK.
That said I check spelling very carefully using Google and on-line dictionaries.
We also do many Spanish & German language projects, the titles can be challenging.
Also have to be tedious with ISRC entry, not mistaking a 5 for an S, a 2 for a Z, etc...
So many details....

ya well it shows up in car players and the sponsor was a car company and that's what I spelled wrong.
i don't have to pay for the repress as it's not my liability however it still feels bad.

Hey JT!
These are all important things but to avoid any liability problems, the main one is to have the client directly approve the CD-TEXT.
I do that with unattended session by simply exporting the text from the sequencer and emailing it the client. Sometime they spot an error and I can can fix it. Like Brad does, I ask them to email the text but once in a while, I will make a mistake during the copy and paste by starting the copy one letter in on a title which is why I ALWAYS send back an email of the exported text.
With attended clients, I have them peer at the screen as I scroll through the text columns and that way I know they've checked it. They also take a way a master or ref. copy with the text printed exactly as it will be embedded which gives them a second chance to proof. My labels all have the words "CD TEXT ENABLED" so the replicator has no exciuses to leave it off.
With these extra couple of steps, there can not be any liability on our part. We do exactly the same with the ISRC's.
