Description (revised) Seller assumes all responsibility for listing this item.
You are bidding on a VF-14 Original Tube for a Neumann U47 the grand-daddy of microphones. (Frank Sinatra's favorite). You can see from the pics that this tube has the "M" stamped on the case indicating the tube had been factory tested and selected for low noise. A VF-14 is more rare than an honest politician. No VF-14s were made after WWII which is why they are so rare and so expensive. It is serial number 339 as you can see from the pics. We have no way to test the tube but do know that it was in working condition when it was removed and has been carefully stored in a climate controlled environment. We never kept bad tubes around. We guarantee it to not be DOA (Dead On Arrival).
Shipping Insurance will be required on this item.

Let's look at this eBay auction of a used VF14 tube a bit closer:
1. The fine print:| Quote: | If this item is used, we do not have the resources to test every possible jack/function/feature of the products we sell, therefore, we are selling it "as-is" with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied...
We consider all sales as final with No returns, No refunds, and No exchanges.
|
2. No mention is made of the noise floor or microphonics of this specific used VF14 tube- information vital for the tube's usefulness in mic applicctions.
3. The "M" stamp on the tube. I don't like it.
I have copied the auction's close-up of the stamp, and posted below a couple of M-stamps on factory fresh/Neumann-delivered VF14s. You decide.

Jerry, good eye!
Here's the one for sale superimposed over one of Klaus' tubes, with the size of the tube adjusted proportionally. You can see that the letters are a completely different size.

well now we know how!
I would never buy such an expensive tube without checking it out and having the possibility of return..
actually I would never buy it unless I KNEW exactly where it came from!
