I have a pair of KM 85 {ser.No's: 36008- 36009) and would love to get 2 KM 83 capsules to add to my kit. Do they come up for sale and where is a good place to look?

Hi Chris,
I believe Neumann still stocks the KK83 capsule as a spare part---you can contact Sennheiser but make sure you're sitting down when they tell you how much they are. I see them on Ebay occasionally as well...

Barry, what I understand is that the diaphragm of the capsule is tensioned in a way to create the bass rolloff. The KMi amplifier body will accept all three KK8X capsules. I keep a KK83 handy and use it on one of my KM84 bodies.

The low frequency roll off in the KM85 is arrived at by capsule tuning---it's not in the amplifier section. So if Chris can find a couple of KK83 caps and install them on his KMi bodies he will have KM83's. I do this all the time with my own 83, 84, and 85 caps as I only have two KMi's to go around.

I believe last I checked they are @ $625 each. Screw on ready.
I do the same with my 83's but I went the other way round, I bought 2 KM84 caps. I think they run $535 each last I checked.
