I'm looking for the best quality 8 input interface on a budget that is probably non existent, I guess $500 but not too much more. I just need 8 XLR inputs and firewire out, no other bells and whistles, just good quality pres and clocking. I have an Apogee Duet, and I love it. However, to record an entire band, I need more inputs. I'd love to get the Ensemble but that's not going to happen any time soon. I use Garage Band now, and hopefully will upgrade to Logic soon, though if I'm using little processing in Garage Band and don't need greater editing capability, does Logic provide greater sound quality? Someone mentioned something about summing in Garage Band not being as high quality as Logic or ProTools. Is this correct? If not, I'd prefer to spend my time and money dealing with mics and music instead of editing and processing.

I would also consider the regular firestudio. It costs a little more but it can be expanded in the future via ADAT should you want to.
