There is an AMAZING dvd by Sound Techniques (same as the studio and desk designers) about Davy. It has tons of up close playing and great chat from him about guitars and styles and people.
The whole series of Sound Techniques DVDs are incredible!

Centuries old Irish folk melody.
White Summer also preceeded BMS.

Adrian Legg.
Twice, I've been forced to pull over to the side of the road to give my full attention to a story/interview on BBC radio: Once was Adrial Legg, the other was Tom Dowd. (oddly enough, both times were in Lincolnshire... go figure!)
I was since fortunate enough to meet and chat with both. Both fabulous people.

Well not note for note, but certainly a huge inspiration for Black Mountain Side.....unless there were many other cats doing this same thing then. I wasn't even hip to this cat 'til now.....thanks!

I think Black Mountain Side is almost a note for note copy of Bert Jansch's arrangement of Black Waterside.

Since you qualified your definition of "Guitar God" to limit it to "English folk guitar", I'll go go with you on that one.
I've seen "The Romeros" twice, so those are my "Guitar Gods" (Angel, Celin, Celedonio {Papa}, and Pepe Romero).
As for Jimmy Page 'copping' this or that, I've already heard three other versions of "Black Mountain Side" rendered prior to Led Zeppelin's version, and WW just brought to my awareness yet another version. (thanks)
No different than Eric Clapton 'copping' at least half of everything that Albert King ever did.
The video was very nice, quite entertaining, so thank you, MDM.
Lots of eastern influence there, and Davy seems to be a musical 'polymath', as it were; Joni Mitchell, alongside Irish folk tunes, along with some tune later in the video that I recognized as being from a (Alvin Lee) Ten Years After song "I Can't Keep From Crying, Sometimes" which was on a triple album called "The Isle of Wight/Atlanta Pop Festival" that got stolen from me at least 28 years ago.
That was a weird experience, as I've not heard that song in all the interval since.

I just realized that the "no one knows" riff (Queens of the Stone Age) is really similar to a riff in Graham's "Anji"... interesting.

bert was post-davy, although he is utterly amazing and influential as well.
if you want to know where some of Led Zep III came from listen to Jansch.
|
I definitely need more Jansch in my CD/record collection. All I've got is the first Pentangle album and Blackwaterside (on a "roots of led zeppelin" compilation that came with an issue of Mojo magazine).
..and I really need some Davey Graham
