Well, I've been hinting and threatening for a while, but I am ready now to start the mod thread going.
Jeff Roberts will be the co-moddee for this one. He sent two VR's in, and I sent my one.
The microphones went to Mr. Oliver Archut, and were given the full Oli treatment.
New electronics, new TAB-Funkenwerk transformers, PSU mods as necessary.
I sent in a 414-EB with brass capsule, and Oliver swapped the capsules, putting my brass one into the (now) C-12, and the teflon one back into the EB (at least it's usable in a pinch...I have several other brass-CK-12 EBs already).
Oliver sent mine out for cosmetic refinishing, but Jeff can tell you what magick he did to his two.
Oh yeah, also I have no more GOLD basket!
No, I haven't heard it yet, as Oliver is still finishing, but he says it sounds very, very good. Can't wait!
However, to get things going, here is a photo of the new baby:

Oliver will be getting us all a schemo, should anyone want to try this on their own!
Josh, feel free to join in too!

Shame you couldn't re-stamp that VR as OA.
So is this essentially a complete rebuild as something new (old) rather than a mod?

Yes, in a way it's a shame that it says "VR," but it might be disingenuous to someone in future to not have that there.
And yes, it is essentially a complete new electronics, simple and direct like a real C-12, rather than a modified old VR one.
The way to properly modify the old guts is to throw them in the trash.

Indeed. Oliver had an old one from a C-12, so we put the GOLD one to work as a strainer for tea bags.
