I love Inara George.
Actually I love her new record with Van Dyke Parks arranging
It is a breath of fresh air
It is refreshing to hear a female singer not fighting her way through an over compressed track of loops and crunchy guitars
this record is gorgeous
and she sounds like a mix between ? joni, billie holliday and ?
it is wonderful
it is a record basically built on her voice and Van Dykes string arrangements
for those who aren't into Little Feat
Inara is Lowell George's daughter
Lowell passed away in 1979
He was the main driving force, slide guitarist and founder of Little Feat

She's a super talent of her own. She's been in quite a few groups over the years, with varying degrees of success. I like her rhythm style, kinda quirky and not-so predictable...
Gotta hear the new record, sounds good.
Relax and float downstream...

holy moly
I am listening to the KCRW broadcast
Do you know how happy it makes me?
Not only the beautiful music - but that there are capable people who do it live.
smiles everyone; smiles

That's my friend Grant on the Guitar. I'm doing perc overdubs for him on Friday.
All great players and fun to hang with, too.

Just got the album (an aside: I love the word 'album').
And it's doing all the things to me that my favorite music does: wonder, inspire, smile, open heart, sway, laugh, and love.
I'm in it for the magic.
damn

ps - a big thank you to all who mentioned her here. Her music is new to me, and I was ready for it. Thank you.

Doh! I never made the connection.
The Bird And The Bee was something that one of my teenage daughters turned me onto. Again And Again just really caught my ear.
I'll look forward to hearing the new record.

Ross,
Thanks for the introduction.
I gave up trying to dig things like this out of current offerings.
I'm slow, but I do catch on, eventually.
Her producer did her well in lining her up with a fellow writer (and other cohorts) that so well suited her intention.
Funny how such well thought out endeavors as this enable me to be somewhat "mindless" (refreshingly so) for a change.
Thanks again, Mr. Hogarth
"Quirky" vocals and key changes.
I'm so cheaply bought ....

I guess my ears are just 'different' or something, but I don't hear any Billie Holiday at all here.
(Ingrid Michaelson comes closer to mind)
I do hear a good bit of someone in her own voice, to quite good effect.
What I like about this song ...
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GK8gGwhd9fM
is the use of acoustic guitar (@ ~ 2:14) as, essentially, a percussive instrument.
(I hate the toy drums, but her singing is so good, I can still listen to it. My hope is that she achieves success that allows her to hire a drummer for further efforts)
Toy drums fit well in a dumpster, but don't fit well in any mix.
