True!
What's the full deal with the travel/ Oliver thing, and how long? Because it sounds like an awesome opportunity. The problem would be that i'd either have to still pay for my apartment, or put it in storage....and that's alot of stuff. Would I have to relocate permanently to a bigger place? Where I live, there's unfortunately not enough local demand for mic tech or most tech things.

The isolation wouldn't bother me-- though I live in an urban place, i've always liked a more rural atmosphere and the peace of non-hustle and bustle and smaller towns. And a change could do me good, because i've lapsed into assuming that opportunity has passed me by...this place has become a ghost town for people that went onto bigger and better things (Neil Young, Priority Records, Bob Rock, etc) because they realized that they needed to move, there's just not the industry presence here to make a career out of it.
Maybe i'll send a PM....i'm not married and don't have children, but right now i'm more worried about giving up a pretty good dayjob that I have right now with good benefits (full dental coverage, etc), living far above the poverty line, and am concerned about the stability and prospects that i'll have afterwards, and what people's estimates/ honest opinions are for the future when Chinese outsourcing would seemingly cut into the need for a valued tech. Stating perhaps the elephant in the room-- i'm wondering if the reason this position is still open because of big studios closing down and people going the route of cheaper outsourced mics that they throw away when they break down.
If everything lined up, i'd still love an opportunity like this. And as mentioned, I like to work with electrical circuits and modify things--this is a picture of a Big Muff that i'd installed a bias knob, threshold knobs and various clipping diode configurations on. Mics i'm new to the construction and what makes a good mic as such, but I like the inner workings of what makes great equipment as good as it is. And if possible, better than it already is.

We are so advanced, that we can develop technology that can determine how much damage the earth has taken from the development of that technology.

The upper cone is punched out with 6 tons, the round mesh is tinned all around to make sure that the final basket only need to be flash heated so it won't distort.

For a proto type hamer and chisel take care of separating the dome from the rest. In a production tool a big round wheel (pizza slicer style) will cut the left over while the tool is spinning.

The punched out dome gets pre tinned and surfaced to insure the dome will sit even.

As much fun as it is for finished microphones to make their way out into the world, I think the most exciting part is when prototypes are coming together.

Last wedding pic is sum of parts and the final basket, I guess by now there is a general idea what approximate type of microphone the CS-? mic is...
Parts will leave here tomorrow for plating and if everything goes as it should I have all parts here to assemble the first production prototype in time for AES.
And no we won't use the CS-1 tube...
Best regards,
