Hello everyone,
the reason of my poll is this: I maybe moving to an area where (God forbid) there's no high speed Internet available right now. And therefore FTP would be excruciatingly slow. I can arrange to have an h.s.i. line at my day gig (yes I only master partime), and therefore do FTP from there, 5 days a week for 9 to 5. BUT I do plan on eventually going full time.
Could you live without FTP to and from your studios?
As usual, thank you in advance for your replies.

PS I guess there maybe a price to pay to move to God's country!

satellite internet is for you i reckon
50/50 attended/unattended for me.. but 85% all projects are uploaded to my server via web/ftp.
latency is an issue with satellite, but once u have a connection (download a flie for example) its pretty good.
so, if u could get your clients to zip up the whole album.. it wouldn't be so bad.

Hi JDG,
do you mean to say , that your clients ZIP a project , then FTP it?

Easily 75% of unattended sessions come in via FTP. I'd bet that over half of attended sessions are "pre-delivered" via FTP also (which has saved some butts in many, many cases). A few years ago, both of those numbers were considerably smaller. Lately though, they don't seem to be shrinking at all. Less and less via physical delivery (tape aside, of course).

Thanks guys,
I've started looking into "Satellite internet service". I'll be starting another topic on this.

I'm not sure if folks are lumping together other forms of file transfer as "FTP", but yousendit.com, as well as other forms of file upload/download are also popular here.

Tons of FTP here. I'd guess 80% or more of my work comes in from out of town and probably 95% of my sessions are unattended (weird how much that has changed over 13 years). I still get an occasional disc but downloading mixes and posting 44.1/16 refs is common practice here.
It's weird to think about how much the availability of FTP has changed sessions. Even my in town clients will often tell me to just post refs.

Much of my work is local. I get masters mostly in the mail or hand delivered. I don't use FTP that much. I have slow DSL .

x 2, incl DigiDelivery - very handy.
Though, for me, probably 50% attended sessions/hand delivered & most non-attended are still via the post.
