I forget the name of the song- it's on Transatlanticism. There is a break in the song where the drums are just playing a slow, simple beat. They sound like they are way far away. Almost like they are in a cave or something. How did you get that sound? It thought it may have been room mics, but not sure. Could you shed some light. I love that part, and the way it was recorded. Thanks Chris

I have no idea what song you're talking about. If you give me a title, I'll be happy to help.

Lightness is a six microphone drum kit ? an SM7 on the snare, a pair of solid state Sony C37s overhead, a 414 over the kick drum and close to the snare, a D112 in the kick drum and an AT 4033 in the room, faced away from the kit and compressed to death. The room isn't super big, but the drums are all really live and open. Jason put a bedsheet over the whole front kick drum head, under the rim. It's an old Motown trick. I brought the kick drum a little more into focus with one of Jonathan Little's IBP boxes.
Bjork ? Yes and no. I personally disliked 'Medulla' quite a bit, but I think the first two records are really good. The first Sugarcubes record is one of my favorites of all time, though. I wrote an open letter to Bjork on the Death Cab website in the journal section last August; it's still there, and it explains my taste / distaste for the Ice Queen more completely. She's absolutely brilliant, but I wish she would write some songs again.
